ABOUT

Scalloway Youth & Community Centre is a vibrant hub in the centre of Scalloway where people of all ages can meet in a safe and welcoming environment.

Scalloway enjoys the only purpose built youth centre in Shetland and it was opened on 9th November 1996. Relaunched as the The Scalloway Youth & Community Centre to reflect a wider range of user groups, it is owned and managed by Trustees of a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The Management Committee is made up of representatives from affiliated groups, the Trust and independent interested people from the community.
There are 13 Trustees who are responsible for the fabric of the building and car park/civic square area and the management and day to day running and development of the centre. All of these people are volunteers who give up their time willingly to ensure that the Youth & Community Centre continues to thrive.

There are a number of external groups that hire out the centre, some of them afflliated and some not e.g. there is a very active Rainbows & Brownies Group that meets on a Monday night; a Junior Youth Club and Senior Youth Club run by Shetland Islands Council Youth Services on a Wednesday night; a music group that meets every Friday evening and over the winter months a family traditional dance group is organised through the management committee. There is also the monthly Cafe Church who meet every second Sunday of the month and various one off bookings and hires throughout the year.
